Science Data Production

Standard Data Products are produced by science software running at the Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs). Standard Data Products generally consist of geophysical parameters derived from calibrated EOS instrument data and other previously derived data. The first EOS Standard Data Products will come from instruments flown aboard TRMM and EOS AM-1.

Each EOS instrument has an associated Instrument Team of scientists and EOS investigators that develop the science software (to produce Standard Data Products) at EOS Science Computing Facilities (SCFs).

Instrument Teams and EOS investigators communicate their science data production needs to ECS through the Ad Hoc Working Group on Production. This process, along with Science Software Integration and Test procedures, helps to ensure successful science data production within ECS.

Science Software Integration and Test (SSI&T) teams test the science software for production readiness and perform the integration into ECS at the DAACs. SSI&T teams, together with the Instrument Teams and DAACs, are also responsible for refining the integration and test process as it pertains to the ECS system design and development.
